WHO CAN RENT A BOAT?

Anyone over 18 with SAMSA Skipper license can rent a boat.  All sailing tickets are not accepted by SAMSA for operating a power boat.

Foreign Visitors - Only International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft recognised in RSA.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?

~  Proof of Skippers Ticket

~  Proof of Identity (ID Book or Passport)

~  Proof of Address (Utility Bill etc.)

~  Drivers Licence



WHAT IS THE DEPOSIT AMOUNT?

A deposit of R4500 is required to be paid 7 days prior to rental date via EFT or paid on the day of rental via Zapper, Snapscan, credit card/debit card or cash for insurance purposes. When you return the hired boat, trailer, safety equipment, life jackets and accessories in good order, the deposit (ONLY once it reflects in our account) will be refunded, via EFT, within 7 working days after the boat is returned.

DOES THE RENTAL DAY RATE INCLUDE FUEL/PETROL?

On collection of the hired boat, you will receive the boat with FULL fuel tanks (UNLEADED PETROL ONLY) and it is company policy for the client to return the tanks with full tanks of fuel. In the case of fuel tanks not being filled upon returning the rented boat, Ocean Image Boat Rentals holds the right to charge the client a fuel fee of R138.00 per one quarter tank used (Boat Echo is R138.00 for every 6 litres used), these charges will be deducted from the clients deposit.

WHERE CAN I LAUNCH?

There are numerous launch sites and jetties within Cape Town’s peninsula area. The most convenient and scenic launch area being at the Granger Bay slipway. You, as the client, have two options to get the boat into the water: You can hook and tow the boat and trailer yourself and launch at your own time, destination and convenience, or

We can have the boat launched and ready in the water for you upon arrival (additional cost of R400 applicable) – please enquire with us prior to the collection date and time to make these arrangements possible.

Please be aware that the day rates of any boat hire, DO NOT include any additional launch fees, permits or licenses that might be required at your specific launching area – whether it be at any alternative water club, lagoon, river, etc. Ocean Image Boat Rentals is NOT responsible for any additional launching fees or permits.

CAN I DO FISHING FROM THE HIRED BOAT?

Yes, of course, BUT make sure you know what the correct season is for all species. Do not get caught with illegal fish or crayfish – you will be prosecuted by marine authorities.

Poaching & Impounding Policy: Please note that Ocean Image condemns any sort of poaching and you as the client will be held legally and bindingly responsible for all/any costs incurred if you are found guilty of any illegal poaching activities. The client will be held financially accountable in full if one of our vessels are impounded or any fines are incurred; you as the client will also be financially liable in the event that one of our boats are impounded and will be liable to pay, as per your rental agreement, for each day until the boat is returned to Ocean Image.

HANDLINE FISHING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED FROM ANY/ALL HIRED BOATS

The use of Handlines are strictly forbidden due to the fact that major damage can be caused to the pontoons and may result in tears or punctures - the consequence will lead to costly repairs for the client.

Please note that as a client or hirer of our boats, we DO NOT provide you or your passengers with the appropriate fishing or bait licenses. You will have to do all necessary applications on your own at your closest Post Office or Fishing/Marine Institution. If you have any questions or need some advice, please feel free to contact us.

CAN I TOW ON GRAVEL ROADS?

 Yes, it is permitted, though, ONLY once the client and an Ocean Image Representative have fully inspected the boat and trailer, including all brackets, supports and mountings; and all parties find the asset in a roadworthy condition; the boat hirer will sign and acknowledge that he/she is entirely responsible to return the boat, trailer and equipment in the condition it was received, thus, verifies that he/she will be held accountable for all/any loss or damage.

Gravel road usage will automatically incur a cleaning and maintenance fee of R700.00.

FAIR WEATHER POLICY

Bad Weather on your boating day? Do not panic! If, on the day of you wanting to launch (in the Cape Town area) and the weather is not suitable, we will gladly move your booking to an alternative date that suites you best. Prior arrangements are necessary so that we can ensure you have a boat available.

Cancellation/Refund:

NO REFUND will be made for all cancellations within 7 days of rental. Full refund if a cancellation was made more than 7 days before rental. NO REFUND will be made for days not used due to unfavourable weather or any reason preventing the use of the boat during your rental period.
